Wolf stove electric element not heating in Toronto — what we check
- On a Wolf dual-fuel range the heat the owner calls "electric" lives in the oven cavity, not the red-knob gas top, and the #1 straight no-heat call is an open hidden bake element. Wolf's own Technical Data Chart specs these by cavity width: the 30"/36" bake elements are model-coded as inner/outer pairs, the 18" bake element reads 39.7 ohms, and the physical part is 811931 (supersedes the older 804152, and is itself superseded by 825336 on DF units past serial #18115700 / ICBDF units past #17312500), with 811932 the small-oven element on DF48. The tell is a cavity that powers up and displays normally but never warms, usually a visible blister at the loop; a meter reads no continuity across the terminals. We ohm the element at its leads before touching electronics — this is a confirm-and-swap, not a board chase.
- No-broil-only points at the broil element, a separate heat path Wolf lists on its own line in the Technical Data Chart (18" broil 16.4 ohms, 30" broil 28.8/28.2 ohms at 240/208V, 36" broil 16 ohms). We test each mode independently — an element that won't glow on Broil while Bake still works (or the reverse) is a single dead element, not a board — by entering Wolf's diagnostic mode and turning the control bezel to fire each relay one at a time; the CFH (Call For Heat) light only illuminates when current actually flows through that element's circuit. On a convection-no-heat we ohm the per-fan convection elements (24 ohms each) the same way before pricing parts.
- Err 03 and Err 04 are Wolf's RTD oven-sensor codes that leave the cavity cold to stay safe: Err 03 = an OPEN circuit detected on the RTD oven sensor, Err 04 = a SHORTED RTD. The control cuts heat and faults out. Wolf's Technical Data Chart spec for that RTD is 1091 ohms at 75°F — we ohm the sensor cold against that figure, and Wolf's own chart instruction is ohm the RTD and replace if defective; if the RTD reads good, replace the oven controller. We meter the probe AND its harness back to the controller, because a failed sensor and a corroded lead throw the identical Err 03/04 and the same no-heat.
- Err 0E is the Wolf code that condemns the relay board on a no-heat: Wolf's error-code chart groups three conditions under 0E — "power relay shorted, sensed as closed when should be open," "failure of element circuit," and "failure of relay drive circuitry" — and the prescribed action for all three is replace the relay board. The relay board is the part that closes the 240/208V leg (element relay plus the double-line-breaker, DLB) to each element on a Call For Heat; the dual-fuel relay board is 807052 (supersedes 806830 prior to serial #16000000; DF48 left oven uses 806829, international IR304/IR365 covered by the same board family) on serial #16000000 and later. We confirm there's no voltage at the element terminals during a real bake call — and run Wolf's element-test in diagnostic mode first — before condemning the board, because a board is the last honest suspect on a no-heat, not the first.
- A blown—actually a TRIPPED—thermo limiter is the Wolf-specific twist on a dead-after-overheat oven, and it sets Wolf apart from GE/Whirlpool one-shot fuses: Wolf's thermo limiter is RESETTABLE, mounted on the back-panel insulation, reachable through the left convection-fan opening. When it's open, every element tests good yet nothing fires. Wolf's own ohm-test isolates it: at the relay board, pull the DLB lead and ohm from that DLB lead to each element lead — no reading to ALL of them means the thermo limiter, not the elements, is the open. We ohm and reset it, and always diagnose WHY it tripped (a welded relay throwing Err 0E — "power relay shorted, sensed as closed when should be open" — or an over-temp Err 02, which Wolf sets at 630°F with the door unlocked / 950°F locked) before closing the call.
- "Lo" on the display is the false-no-heat trap on Wolf, and Wolf states it plainly: Lo is NOT an error code, it indicates the oven is currently preheating — normal operation. We confirm the oven simply hasn't reached setpoint yet before chasing parts.
