Homes here: Erin Mills is one of the GTA's big master-planned "new towns": more than 7,000 acres laid out west of the Credit River around Erin Mills Parkway (the former Fifth Line West). The land was assembled and named in the 1950s by E.P. Taylor's Don Mills Development Corporation, sold to Cadillac Fairview in 1968, and built out by Cadillac Fairview in curvilinear phases from the early 1970s — the "Erin Mills New Town" plan, unveiled in 1969, was laid out in four sections (Erin Mills South, West, Centre and Ridge). The eras read off the map. Erin Mills South, near Dundas, went up through the 1970s; Erin Mills West followed in the mid-1980s; Central Erin Mills (Erin Mills Centre), north of Highway 403, was completed around 1989 anchored by the new Town Centre mall; and the Churchill Meadows edge filled in roughly 2000 to 2010. The result is a mosaic of pockets: Credit Valley's older box-style detached homes in red and brown brick, the executive and custom stock of Sawmill Valley south of Burnhamthorpe near the UTM campus, the larger Credit Mills homes by Credit Valley Hospital, and the varied townhome, semi and detached runs of Erin Meadows and Sheridan Homelands. Most of it is detached brick on winding, tree-lined lots with attached garages, two-car driveways and finished basements, interleaved with townhouse complexes (traditional and stacked) and newer high-rise condos along Eglinton near the Town Centre. Much of the stock is now 25 to 50 years old, so the appliances and their hookups have aged with the houses.

The winding, hilly Credit River-valley streets and deep premium lots in Sawmill Valley and Credit Mills can add a longer carry from the curb. The exceptions are the townhouse complexes around Erin Mills Town Centre and the newer high-rise condos along Eglinton Avenue West, where visitor parking and a service-elevator or building-entry booking can shape the window.
