- The defining temp-inaccurate fault on an Electrolux-platform Frigidaire is RTD sensor DRIFT rather than a hard failure: the probe still reads, but it reads off-spec, so the EOC's idea of cavity temperature no longer matches reality and the food comes out under- or over-cooked with no error code (the hard sensor codes -- F30 open-probe, F31 shorted-probe -- only fire when the RTD opens or shorts, not when it merely drifts). We meter the RTD oven sensor 316217002 (PS820208, AP3363354) cold at its connector -- a healthy probe is roughly 1080 ohms at room temperature (about 1000-1100 acceptable; well under 900 or over 1200 ohms condemns it). A drifted-high reading makes the control under-fire and bake cold; drifted-low makes it over-fire and run hot. Anything well off 1080 gets the sensor, not the board.
- A Frigidaire that reads correct resistance AT the sensor body but wrong at the EOC plug is a harness fault masquerading as a bad probe -- the RTD wires run along the back of the cavity through every heat cycle, so a corroded pin or brittle conductor at the rear-wall connector adds resistance the control reads as a false temperature. We meter the probe AND the harness at the EOC end and compare: a discrepancy beyond about 10 ohms between the two readings (our own bench heuristic, not an OEM spec) condemns the harness/connector, not the in-spec sensor 316217002 -- and finding that corroded plug is far cheaper than swapping a good probe.
- A bent probe or a sensor tip resting against the cavity wall reads falsely high because it's sensing metal, not air -- the classic signature is an oven set to 350 that bakes like 400 (or swings wildly) with the RTD testing perfectly in-spec on a meter. We straighten the probe so it sits proud in the airstream and re-clip it off the wall before condemning any part; a kinked probe also fails the replacement in months, so position is checked first. This is a frequent free fix that a parts-cannon misses entirely.
- A consistent fixed offset -- the oven reliably cold (or hot) by a steady 25-50F with an in-spec RTD and good harness -- is calibration, not a failed part. Frigidaire EOCs allow a user offset: push Bake, turn the temperature up to 550F, then push and hold Bake until a 2-digit display appears ('00' is factory), adjustable +/-35F in 5F steps (minus sign = cooler). We recalibrate rather than parts-cannon, and if the offset already sits at its +/-35F limit and the oven is still off, that tells us to look harder at the sensor or harness.
