- Read and write down the exact fault code (or flash pattern) shown, then confirm the pot is induction-compatible: hold a magnet to its base -- if it doesn't grip firmly, or the pot is smaller than the zone's minimum, the zone reads 'no cookware' and won't heat; swap in a known ferromagnetic flat-bottom pan on a clean, dry, centred surface and retest before touching anything internal.
- Check ventilation and let it cool: an overheat shutdown (zone heats then quits after seconds with the fan still running) usually means the cooling intake/exhaust is blocked or the unit is starved for air. Clear any obstruction under and around the cooktop, verify the cooling fan actually spins, let the glass and electronics cool fully, then retest -- if it runs normally once cool, the trip was thermal, not a dead element.
- Do a full power cycle: switch the cooktop's breaker OFF for 60 seconds and back ON to clear a transient communication/firmware fault (e.g. a board-to-board comms code). If the code clears and the zone heats, it was a glitch; if it returns immediately, move to a hardware fault.
- Technician step -- pull the cooktop and inspect the wiring: check the ribbon/harness between the user-interface (touch) board and the power/induction board for loose, vibrated-out, or heat-discoloured connectors, and reseat them. A broken comms data line here is a common, cheap cause that mimics a dead element.
- Technician step -- verify incoming supply and the thermistor: confirm correct voltage is reaching the power board, then check the zone's temperature sensor (thermistor) resistance against spec -- an out-of-range sensor falsely triggers an overheat shutdown and is far cheaper to replace than the board.
- Technician step -- condemn the induction power board / IGBT module last: with cookware, ventilation, supply, harness, and sensor all confirmed good and a hard code persisting, the failed inverter (IGBT) or induction power board is the definitive cause -- replace the affected board (matched to the specific failed zone).
