How we diagnose it — in order
- Confirm the dishwasher is actually getting power first: reset the dedicated breaker at the panel (look for one sitting in the middle/tripped position), press RESET on any GFCI outlet under the sink or on a nearby counter, and check the under-cabinet wall switch near the disposal hasn't been bumped off. This clears the most common no-power cause before anything is opened up.
- Open the junction box (usually under the dishwasher kickplate or under the sink) and confirm 120V at the supply leads with a meter, and check that the wire nuts and ground are tight and not burnt. A loose or corroded connection here mimics a dead appliance — re-make any bad connection before going further.
- Check the door latch and its switches: make sure the door fully closes and the latch clicks home, then rule out an active Control Lock or a Delay Start countdown on the panel. With power off, test the door-latch switch(es) for continuity — a failed latch switch cuts power to the controls and is the most common in-machine reason a unit takes power but won't run.
- On models that use one, locate the thermal fuse on the control board assembly, disconnect its leads, and test it for continuity with a multimeter. An open (no-continuity) thermal fuse blocks power to the board and is a cheap, common failure — replace the fuse and investigate why it blew rather than condemning the board.
- Only after supply voltage, latch switches, and the thermal fuse all check out, confirm the control board is receiving line voltage but not switching power to the components, then replace the main control board. The board is a diagnosis of elimination and the most expensive part — it goes last, never first.

- Press the door firmly until the latch clicks — a door that doesn't fully latch is the most common reason it won't start.
- Check the breaker panel and reset a tripped breaker; many dishwashers share a kitchen circuit.
- Look for a Control-Lock / child-lock indicator and hold the labelled button to clear it; cancel any delay-start.
- Confirm the unit isn't simply mid-cycle or paused.
