How we diagnose it — in order
- Refill the rinse-aid dispenser and confirm the cap seals — empty or low rinse aid is the #1 cause of wet dishes, since it lets water sheet off rather than bead and cling; also check the selected cycle has a Heated Dry / Sani option enabled, as eco/no-heat cycles air-dry only.
- Check loading and unload habits: confirm cup bottoms and concave plastics aren't trapping pooled water (a load fault, not a machine fault), don't overcrowd, and crack the door open at cycle end so trapped steam vents instead of re-condensing on the dishes.
- Run a cycle and feel the tub interior at the end — it should be hot. A cool tub points to no heat: inspect the bottom heating element for visible cracks, blisters, or burn marks before any electrical testing.
- Technician step — with power disconnected, test the heating element for continuity with a multimeter; a good element reads roughly 15-30 ohms. OL/infinite means it's open and must be replaced; near-zero means shorted.
- Technician step — if the element reads good, test the high-limit thermostat under the tub for continuity (near 0 ohms at room temperature; OL means tripped/failed) and verify the control board is actually sending 120V to the element during the dry phase before condemning the element.
- On condensation-dry models, inspect the door vent flap and (if equipped) the vent fan/motor and damper — confirm the flap opens and the fan runs during dry; a stuck-closed vent or seized fan traps steam and leaves dishes wet even with a healthy element.
